Indoor Environmental Quality is one of the primary focuses of the LEED rating system. Harmful chemicals are present in many of the materials and furnishings used in our buildings, often causing the air inside to be more hazardous than the air outside. To improve occupant health, LEED encourages the reduction or avoidance of certain chemicals and, in Credit EQ 3.2, has established a protocol for verifying building health through venting and testing.
This presentation will provide an overview of interior building health and the specifics of LEED Credit EQ 3.2. We will identify the various chemicals and compounds that LEED has deemed as hazardous and the different approaches and methods of collection and analysis. In addition, particular attention will be given to field practices and proper design that leads to a clean interior and the mistakes made on prior projects that have threatened the successful documentation of this credit.
MISSION: "To promote sustainable strategies and responsibility for the Inland Empire’s environmental legacy and built environment, fostering a healthy, prosperous and improved quality of life."
